Seven new swine flu cases brings total to 44 in Taiwan

(ChinaPost.com.tw) – The Central Epidemics Command Center (CECC) reported yesterday another seven swine flu cases infected in Thailand, bringing the latest tally of confirmed cases in Taiwan to 44.

Officials at the center has already notified the World Health Organization of the latest infections, said officials.

Shih Wen-yi, a spokesman for the CECC and a senior official at the Center for Disease Control (CDC), said that the seven people had recently returned from Thailand on different days in the last week.

Most of the cases exhibited flu-like symptoms such as cough, fatigue and runny nose. But three only showed mild signs of the disease in the form of occasional coughing, explained Shih.

Among the seven new cases, three were male students who went to Thailand on graduation trips, while the other four were members of tour groups from Taiwan to the Southeastern Asian country, he said.
